Engineering Design Center (EDC) was created under an agreement between General Electric and the Institute of Aviation. Our engineers work in following areas: aircraft jet engines, gas and steam turbines, electric motors and generators, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, as well as industrial installations including pipelines, and automatics. EDC employs over 1800 engineers and is the largest engineering center in the Central Europe.

Role Summary / Purpose

This posting is for a Balance of Plant (BOP) Mechanical Systems Lead Engineer in the GE Power, Water & Distributed Power team at the EDC. The position requires the candidate to effectively manage multiple project responsibilities from initial inquiry through field start up. Position will be a combined ITO and OTR role, providing sale and engineering support for all aspects of extended scope projects. Considerable internal interaction is required, including activity with sales, commercial operations, other engineering disciplines, project management, sourcing and field start up personnel. External activity is also required, with customers, suppliers and third party engineering and installation subcontractors.

Our products cover power generation, compression and mechanical and heat recovery applications from 120KW-10 MW, featuring fast, flexible and reliable gas engines fueled by liquid and gaseous fuels with efficiencies up to 95 percent.


  • Support our business partner during RFQ and order execution phase starting with scope assessment (division of work) up to detailed systems engineering as part of order execution
  • Support commercial teams during offer phase
  • Support technical clarification/explanations with customers
  • Strong contribution on our cost out programs to support further development
  • Closely working together with specialists across Engineering & Service department
  • Further develop existing documentation (procedures, processes, tools, etc.
  • Participate in activities to prepare bid evaluation and supplier selection
  • Provide other technical expertise as required by BOP Lead Project Engineers including attending customer meetings
  • Leverage expertise to resolve current issues

Qualifications / Requirements

  • MSc in Engineering
  • Experience in commissioning/engineering of Power Plants similar jobs in plant operation & maintenance
  • Acquainted with the applicable methods (e. g. standards in piping, PED, etc.)
  • High energy and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a global team environment with strong project management skills
  • Candidate must be thorough, accurate, and be able to communicate effectively both to technical and non-technical audiences


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
  • Experience in mechanical engineering
  • Familiar with CAD programs e. g. AutoCAD/PDMS or SmartPlant
  • Familiar with selecting BOP components (e. g. radiators, pumps, vessels)
  • Experience in plant optimization
  • Knowledge around SCR Cat. Technology
  • Experience with engineering and construction projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluent English written & verbal skills essential
  • Proficient in use of computers and PC hardware, MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Word
