Assistant Vice President – Control Assurance

About the team:

Newly established Global Chief Control Officer (CCO) Function directly supports the Group’s Chief Operating Officers (COO). The purpose of the CCO function is to enable over 80,000 colleagues within HSBC Operations, Services and Technology (HOST) to deliver a safe and secure service to all our customers, colleagues and the Bank itself. This will be achieved by:

  • Enforcing robust risk governance and ensuring all stakeholders have visibility of key risks and remediation activity.
  • Setting, communicating and monitoring risk appetite in line with business requirements.
  • Conducting high quality and efficient reviews of our control performance.
  • Facilitating controls remediation where required.
  • Raising awareness and understanding of risks, controls and risk management.
  • Continuously improving the control and monitoring of risk, including behaviors

The Global CCO Function covering the following areas:

  • Control Assurance
  • Reporting, Automation and Governance
  • Risk Culture

About the role:

The role holder will be a key team member of the GCOO Assurance function which provides independent validation of control effectiveness in HSBC.
 
The purpose of Assistant Vice President – Control Assurance is to support Senior Manager in performing control assurance activities in line with HSBC Operational Risk policy and GCOO Assurance methodology across HSBC control estate. This includes executing control reviews, thematic process reviews and deep dives. As such, prior experience of performing assurance activities is essential.
 
The role is new in Krakow Center and the purpose of it is to deliver control assurance. The job holder will work independently and explore opportunities that support three global areas (rotationally all or only some of them at the same time):
  • Operations
  • Business
  • Technology

What you will do:

  • Managing a team of control testers
  • Supporting motivation, development and recruitment of resources
  • Providing expertise and guidance on control assurance and applying critical judgment and decision making in relation to the identification and publication of control assurance findings through identifying the key risks and issues
  • Timely delivering control testing in line with the quarterly and annual assurance plans
  • Leading completion of thematic and targeted control reviews covering operational risks
  • Assessing operational risks and understanding their role in risk management and internal control referred to as the ‘Three Lines of Defence’
  • Following and demonstrating compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any supporting policies and procedures.
  • Suggesting and implementing enhancements to testing processes and resource capabilities
  • Building ‘trusted advisor’ relationships with internal stakeholders through maintaining a network of Control Owners and Control Operators for the key operational controls and partnering with 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence (LOD) including Operational Risk, ISR, Internal Audit etc. on coverage of control assurance

What we expect of you:

  • Minimum 4 - 6 years of relevant experience in Control Assurance in Financial Service industry
  • Experience in assurance, audit and review in at least one from the following areas: Operations, IT and Business
  • Experience in team management
  • Knowledge of operational risk management, internal control or internal audit
  • Proven Risk and Project / Process Management experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to a wide range of individuals and groups and at different levels of seniority
  • Self-starter and effective collaborator
  • Innovative and able to assess needs and propose solutions
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to influence without direct management authority
  • Ability to read, write and speak French is desirable
