AVP – Third Party Management SME

Role Purpose

Third Party Management (TPM) is the process of identification, assessment, remediation and ongoing management of the risk HSBC is exposed to when buying goods or services from a third party. This is an essential part of our business because it:
  • Ensures we comply to our regulatory obligations
  • Protects HSBC’s brand, values and reputation

  • Enables us to meet our business needs and support critical business services

  • Reduces the risk of doing business with third parties

  • Supports our policies and provides a consistent approach across the bank 

We are building a Delivery Hub within Global Operations, to service HSBC and ensure that all activities required to fulfil our TPM obligations are completed in a standardised, accurate, timely and compliant manner.

Principal Accountabilities:

Impact on Business/Function

  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise on the TPM policy, process and systems

  • Provide risk-domain specific expertise and guidance (including but not limited to: Financial Crime, Regulatory Compliance, Business Continuity, Information & Cyber Security, Physical Security, Accounting, Reputational Risk etc.)

  • Deal with matters escalated by the Hub in relation to the Inherent Risk Questionnaires (IRQ), Residual Risk Questionnaires (RRQ) and control tasks

  • Provide independent assurance over the Hub Quality Assurance function

  • Develop subject-specific supporting documentation for Hub (e.g category or risk-domain level guidance documents)

  • Working with the leadership team to identifying development needs and provide ongoing training to Hub

  • Provide opportunities to continuously improve and optimize the capabilities of the Hub by extensively reviewing and improving existing processes, in collaboration with other Third Party Management Hub SME Embedding and overseeing the TPM procedures and assuring adherence to policies and processes within the Hub team

  • Performing periodic process adherence reviews to ensure processes are being performed to a satisfactory and consistent quality and within agreed timescales

  • Review of analysis, MI and reporting produced by the Global Hub MI team. Drawing out key themes, trends or risks that could both positively or negatively affect the achievement of HSBC's organisational objectives


  • The role will involve frequent liaison with a large range of stakeholders including: 

    • Second Line of Defence (2LoD)
    • Group Operations Executives and Regional Forums 
    • Businesses BRCM, RMM
    • Procurement stakeholders
    • TPRO, TPEMs, Risk Domains and Risk Stewards
    • Internal Audit and External Auditors / Local regulators liaison / engagement

Leadership & Teamwork

  • In some locations the role will operate as a stand-alone role supporting the Hub, in others the role holder will need to work collaboratively with other SME’s

  • Works collaboratively and communicates persuasively, emphasizing teamwork, diversity, and knowledge-sharing both within HSBC and with external business partners

  • Supports and delivers process training and completion in accordance with the training plans

  • Proven track record in role modelling the Group values and behaviours, authentically engaging with your team, colleagues and customers to deliver superior Customer Service through them

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • The TPM SME will ensure that policies and frameworks are understood, updated and perform quality assurance reviews in this respect. They will also have a close working relationship with 2nd Line of Defence to ensure up to date and effective support

  • The role will support across the Hub by identifying and providing training and coaching to support continued growth and knowledge of third party risk within the organization

Role Context

  • The purpose of this role is to ensure first line quality and adherence to Third Party Management. The VP - GTPM Hub SME will be the point of contact within the Delivery Hub for specific Risk Domain and TPM framework queries, support and guidance.

  • The role will be part of a virtual team of SME’s distributed across 5 HUBs and under the leadership of the VP - Controls & Quality Assurance and together be able to provide a full support network for the HUB.

Qualifications/Experience & Knowledge:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree

  • Prior experience in setting, managing and assuring standards and control frameworks

  • Prior Third Party Risk Management related operational risk experience with a financial institution or at a regulatory agency or major consulting firm

  • A good understanding and experience of the Global Businesses and Global Functions within a Bank

  • Additional knowledge of: French, Turkish, German, Arabic is an advantage.
