BI Project Manager
Location: Kraków

Role Purpose

The HSBC Global Operations Chief Data Office is responsible for provisioning trusted data to key stakeholders for driving insights on performance analytics and driving transformational change.

This team reports to the COO of Operations, and engages in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders within Global Operations, other parts of the bank, and externally.

The BI Project Manager is responsible for the efficient and compliant operation of the Data, MI & Analytics team by ensuring approvals are in place for all related projects and initiatives of the team and the book of work is managed effectively via sprint planning, use of tooling and effective communication. The jobholder will support Operations and the bank’s strategy for moving data and applications to cloud and will liaise with a wide group of stakeholders from Legal and Compliance to Engineers and IT and support the Data, MI & Analytics leads towards meeting communicated deliverable deadlines and identifying risks and issues.

This role is key for the success of data driven projects within Operations due to the increased demand of data and analytic driven projects in a complicated data approval framework. They will work on many aspects of supporting the Data Office from documentation of approvals to working with the Group CDO team on the successful roll out of new approvals processes across Operations.

Principal Accountabilities:

Key activities and decision making areas

  • Create and monitor clear RACIs for data approvals for existing and new projects
  • Roll out of new group lead initiatives on data approval processes across Operations and maintenance of documentation that train Operations on approvals and evidence efficiency of controls
  • Work closely with engineers, legal, procurement, risk and IT as well as operations management to ensure that the future state of Operations Data, MI & Analytics platform is compliant
  • Support CDO of reviews of data approvals for externally hosted projects
  • Manage design and day-to-day execution of Data, MI & Analytics team deliverables using collaboration tools such as SharePoint, JIRA, Confluence
  • Drive team sprint meetings and plan and maintain the book of work
  • Distribute regular, effective communications to key stakeholders and identify risks and issues
  • Track Programme resourcing and financials

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Ensures close and effective working relationships with global, regional teams
  • Leads relationships with other internal business functions for collaboration
  • Proactively manages expectations of the activities of the Data, MI & Analytics team within Operations
  • Work independently as a consultant for various global businesses to understand their business and facilitate data approvals in a timely manner

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Increases engagement across multiple engineering teams and stakeholders
  • Removes barriers between teams and promotes required changes in ways of working
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and inclusion and reflects the HSBC brand and values

Additional Role Context:

  • The jobholder is required to work in an environment of significant ambiguity, with autonomy, dealing with major issues for which there is no clear solution whilst being able to provide judgment and clear direction.
  • The jobholder has substantial autonomy and authority, has an operational mindset, is calm under pressure and can handle conflicting orders from various stakeholders

Management of Risk

The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation.

The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.

This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with entity management and/or the appropriate department.

Observation of Internal Controls

The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Qualifications/Experience & Knowledge:

  • BA/BS Degree.
  • Experience with working with multiple stakeholders at the same time and being able to report on progress and blockers.
  • Extraordinary judgment and composure in high-pressure situations.
  • A creative approach to project management centered on lightweight frameworks that enable rapid iteration and low-overhead methods of keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Excellent service skills.
  • A real passion for developing strong partnerships with internal teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, including maintaining accurate records and diligently tracking key project metrics.
  • Enthusiasm for working with diverse teams and supporting projects and senior leadership, bringing order and efficiency to critical initiatives.
