Welcome to HSBC!
HSBC Data & Architecture Office (DAO) promotes a data-driven culture across HSBC through our strategy of:
Protect: To protect our data we need robust policies for data management and enhanced governance e.g. data that is consumed from a trusted source, meets quality standards, and complies with regulatory obligations.
Connect: Move to a data-led culture through enhanced training including on the job opportunities. Our talent is the glue between protecting our data and unlocking value for our customers.
Unlock. Value is unlocked when we deliver on the opportunities our well-managed data presents e.g. improving customer / colleague experience, increasing revenue, commercialising our data, optimising capital, enhancing risk management or reducing costs.
The Data Risk & Standards AVP primarily supports the Protect pillar of the strategy. Key priorities include:
Definition and implementation of the data risk taxonomy & control library in collaboration with ORR 2LoD
Development of a group-wide approach to continuous monitoring plans for data controls including; design and operating quality checks, supervision and management, governance and escalation.
Ambiguity – the role requires navigating data management implementation approaches and policies that are yet to be fully defined and established in the US
Ownership – the role requires the navigation of the structure and roles across the new US Data & Architecture Office (DAO)
Flexibility and adaptability – constantly changing priorities and tasks that are potentially highly restricted in nature, unpredictable and wide-ranging, complex and time-sensitive requires the simultaneous handling of a broad range of issues
Stakeholder considerations – the role requires the highest quality, most succinct output that is suitable for senior executive management and external parties (including regulators) at all times, regardless of pressures
Sensitivity and trust – engendering a true sense of urgency, pace, community, and collaboration across indirectly managed areas across the DAO community
The diverse responsibility of the role and the number of jurisdictions with which the US operates requires the role holder to be highly efficient and able to deal with a high volume of both highly confidential and commercially sensitive information, with discretion
Operating, influencing, and communicating effectively with all stakeholders and other colleagues both inside and outside the various functions
Thinking and acting independently, often within tight timeframes, formulating sound advice or actions which have clear direction and are commercially and operationally acceptable
The role holder will be required to interact with many internal and external parties at the highest level of management and therefore needs an outstanding level of professionalism and gravitas, coupled with strong program management skills
