Recruitment for

The global legal support office of this international pharmaceutical company comprises around 15 legal professionals and focuses on commercial contracts. The team works in close collaboration with business units to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in relation to commercial contracts.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead the glolobal commercial contracts team to deliver against service targets, promoting a positive culture of support, continuous improvement, and personal development
  • Ensure successful ongoing operations of the team within global support office, aligning closely with senior leaders across the firm enterprise and ensuring operating effectiveness of all policies and procedures of the function.
  • Refine and improve the operating model to manage (generate, update, challenge, optimize) commercial contract clauses & templates within the organization and ensure fit with existing and future contracting technology solutions.
  • Monitor and control internal and external operating costs, report output in line with firm reporting principles, ensuring appropriate value is delivered to firm at the enterprise level.
  • Drive a consistent risk-based approach to contracting across Source to Contract.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key SMEs and stakeholders (Corporate Legal, Global Procurement Services, Privacy Office, Finance, and others) and identify activities and processes for future collaboration.
  • Proactively drive commercial contracts team capability uptake across the organization, including delivery and further development of training, guidance, and best practice relating to contract negotiations to enhance contracting quality, consistency, and efficiency across the organization.
  • Drive improved contract compliance across the organization.

Employer requirements

  • Fluent English language skills
  • Extensive experience negotiating contracts in global jurisdictions, with particular expertise in the laws of England and the USA
  • Professional experience acquired within the pharmaceutical industry or a comparable field
  • Ability to translate business requirements into simple legal drafting and to distill complex legal concepts into business-friendly language that supports firm goal of driving business efficient and standardized contracting
  • Experience working with sophisticated contract management platforms
  • Ability to advise and train business clients on contractual risks, working cross-functionally and supporting teams in different geographical regions to improve contracting processes
  • Proven track record of managing a team of attorneys and other contracts professionals, providing guidance and a positive framework for issue resolution, culture, and environment, including career progression and personal development
  • A consistent risk-based approach to contracting across Source to Contract.
