Financial Accounting and Reporting Specialist
Location: Kraków

Role Purpose:

The role is based in Krakow GFC but increasingly serves the needs of multiple countries in the Continental European region.

Main tasks:

  • Prepare, process and reconcile financial data as per the tasks allocated.
  • Provide timely preparation, processing and reconciliation of all required financial and management information.
  • Processing, preparation and approval of journals and manual adjustments, as per the tasks allocated
  • Support other team members and team manager to respond to regular and ad hoc requests from finance and non-finance customers.
  • Ensure all work undertaken complies with HSBC policies, procedures and work practices.
  • Ensure no errors based on the self-review and peer review.
  • Take responsibility for the tasks delivered by junior team members.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsibility for preparation of regular BAU financial and management accounting reports in line with reporting deadlines.
  • Develop basic business reporting capability by performing analysis such as identifying variance or target variables.
  • Support manager and experts, develop capability to produce more ad hoc and complex reporting.
  • Perform controls through the extraction, processing and reconciliation of financial data as per the tasks allocated.
  • Perform review of tasks allocated as a reviewer.
  • Prepare period end close procedures including:
    - Posting of approved period end journals and adjustments as directed, into the relevant accounting/finance systems
    - Perform BAU Balance Sheet accounting reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation
    - Preparation of period end accounts for assigned legal entities
  • Support change projects, beginning to identify and suggest efficiency opportunities in primary areas of accountability.
  • Maintain thorough supporting documentation and audit trail, to facilitate internal and external audits of processes and control activities.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a professional work environment (ideally Financial Services or Banking).
  • Qualified accountant or relevant university degree.
  • In-depth knowledge of the banks systems/structures.
  • Knowledge of Basel II / risk management.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial principles (IFRS), financial accounting and control.
  • Knowledge of central bank regulations.
  • Knowledge / appreciation of statutory & regulatory reporting requirements, be able to follow processes independently and apply controls to ensure compliance with these.
  • Excellent English both written and verbal.
  • Confidence to communicate and build strong relationships with Finance staff at all levels of the Group.
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office (in particular Excel and preferable VBA).
  • Strong analytical ability, tenacity, and sound commercial judgement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be able to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
