    Head of Accounting & Control (Network Countries)
    Location: Kraków
    Ref No: GFC/HofA&C/09/2017

    Lead Financial Control function for Network countries, responsible for end to end delivery of and relationship management with stakeholders ensuring quality of financial accounting, reports and analysis, optimizing process efficiency within a consistent governance framework.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Maintain quality outputs of large teams through implementation of suitable check and review structure – defining KPI structure in collaboration with onshore teams
    • Facilitate the review of plans and budgets for associated entities with senior management teams
    • Utilize deep subject matter expertise in markets or products, to influence the strategy of a global function
    • Review and manage key controls, escalating to senior management any significant control deficiencies
    • Drive change management projects to increase efficiencies and cost reduction across global processes
    • Develop business case for further use of technology, to streamline or standardize financial report generation and processing, driving efficiency and cost savings
    • Lead innovation projects striving to deliver self-service of Processing & Analysis functions to the business, through further technology and tooling use
    • Lead the implementation and oversight of finance policy and governance frameworks, procedures, practices and standards to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance
    • Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment across Processing & Analysis to ensure good operational, financial and project management and compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise
    • Management of costs and budgets for respective teams
    • Develop and communicate a powerful and compelling vision that inspires and engages people with the HSBC Values and goals as the basis of an inclusive, high performance, customer-centred culture
    • Lead, develop and motivate the leadership team to attract, retain and develop the capacity, capability and talent to provide for succession and ensure delivery of business objectives
    • Set expectations, share best practice and manage, monitor, coach and develop leaders and others to ensure that they maximize their performance, meet the required standards, and continuously develop their capabilities and experience
    • Lead and encourage constructive cross-country and cross-business teamwork by demonstrating collaboration and matrix management in action and taking prompt action to address any activities and behaviors that are not consistent with HSBC's diversity policy and/or the best interests of the business and its customers.     • Influence in-country Senior Management teams for responsible entities, through challenge based on in depth analysis and financial expertise
    • Build internal relationships with peers across Partnering & Insight, Modelling and Governance & Control to provide value add financial commentary to reporting and influence business decision making
    • Work closely with in-country Finance Business Partners to communicate the key drivers of the “story behind the numbers” and impact on the business
    • Maintain relationships with senior internal and external auditors, to oversee a thorough and beneficial audit process
    • Participate in Finance governance meetings with various Senior Finance stakeholders
    • Present innovative and technology orientated process improvement opportunities to Governance & Control, to strengthen the controls governance framework
    • Recognized as a Finance SME across HSBC Finance and the businesses; consulted on higher risk and deeply complex issues



    • Qualified accountant or relevant university degree
    • At least 10 years of experience in financial accounting, reporting or audit
    • In-depth knowledge of the banks systems/structures
    • Knowledge of Basel II /III
    • In-depth knowledge of financial principles (IFRS), financial accounting and control
    • In-depth knowledge of central bank regulations and legal issues concerning performed duties
    • Knowledge of other European language (Czech, French or Spanish or Russian) will be a plus
    • Excellent English both written and verbal


    • At least 10 years of experience management of finance teams (ideally financial Services or Banking)
    • Experience of External and Regulatory reporting


    • Confidence to communicate and build strong relationships with finance staff at all levels of the Group
    • Very good knowledge of MS Office (in particular Excel and preferable VBA)
    • Strong analytical ability, tenacity, and sound commercial judgement
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Be able to work independently and meet tight deadlines
    • Demonstrate the ability to work with people at all levels
