About the project

The Head of Technology is the single technology leader responsible for engineering and operating our global Message Orchestration platform that provides capabilities to our millions of global customers to engage in 2-way conversations with us. Working for the CTO and with respective Product, Delivery, Architecture and Engineering peers in a geographically diverse community.

Your responsibilities

  • Accountable for all technology aspects across engineering and operate, operating a truly agile approach to product development within the constraints of a highly regulated industry.

  • Manage the full life cycle of a technical team, providing clarity, ensuring they have the right skills for now and the future and helping to give them a bias for action.

  • Align a technology strategy with the business and customer needs, as well as with multiple wider strategies. Deliver this through demonstrated deep technical understanding and hands-on where feasible.

  • Direct activities to ensure products are developed to a realistic schedule, to the quality our customers expect and demand and maximising the value of our investment.

  • Ensure compliance with bank-wide governance to benefit from the huge experience our organisation has to keep our customers and business safe.

  • Continuously improve how the team operates and how it interfaces and interactions with other teams within Digital and wider in the organisation.

Our requirements

  • Customer and business outcome centered, with a data informed approach to decision making.

  • Building teams proficient in Lean-Agile software development, DevOps and Continuous Improvement.

  • Proactive and with the stamina to operate in a fast-paced, large, transforming and matrix organisation.

  • Public cloud (AWS), cloud native, event-driven

  • Messaging product and technology exposure preferred but not essential.

  • BS / MS in Computer Science or relevant work experience.

  • ~10+ years of experience in designing and delivering high performance and reliable full-stack web solutions, buy vs build decision making and in an open source environment, with 5+ of those years being experience of managing engineering teams.

  • Excellent communication skills in fluent English.
