Currently, we are looking for a candidate for the position of:

Independent Model Review - Assistant Manager

Independent Model Review (IMR) is a specialist quantitative group within the Risk department which independently validates HSBC’s models.

Model types include Asset Management models, Economic Capital models, Financial Vulnerability Models, Global Markets Trading & Hedging models, Insurance Risk models, Retail Credit Risk models, Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis models, Traded Risk Models and Wholesale Credit Risk models. This includes the traditional model types as well as modern approaches such as machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Cooperation with Managers, lead the entire team to perform in the absence of the Manager,
  • Gather information, provide the analysis and appraisals,
  • Work effectively and independently with the other IMR (local and other sites) quantitative analysts,
  • Significantly contribute to the team and provide guidance and support for junior team members,
  • Ensure model limitations are correctly understood and managed,
  • Supervise, mentor, coach and lead junior staff in the team,
  • Supporting and assist team members in order to provide quality services,
  • Being able to challenge constructively model owner choices,
  • Building effective relationships with the model developers to ensure proper communication and anticipate requests,
  • To provide expertise and support other team members with technical issues and synthesize complex analyses in a form that is appropriate for the given audience,
  • Team-oriented mentality combined with ability to complete tasks independently to a high quality standard.

Requirements:

Qualification:

Graduate in Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Physics, Economics or Engineering (MSc, PhD) discipline

Experience (in one or more of the following):

  • One or more of the following areas: Trading Models, Risk models, Statistical Models, Scorecard Development;
  • Experience with some statistical modelling software / programming language e.g. SAS, Python, R, Matlab, C++, VBA
  • Conducting independent model reviews/validations;
  • Ability to clearly articulate technical topics in English, both written and spoken
  • Supervisory experience or combination of education and experience would be an asset;
  • Experience in sharing knowledge or providing trainings to internal / external audience within the area of expertise
  • Proven ability to gather, interpret and solve complex problems
  • Interfacing with Internal Audit and Regulators as a Manager Support
  • Stress testing
