About the project


The Global FX and Commodities IT (GFX IT) team is responsible for developing a range of applications to support the pricing, distribution and risk management of FX and commodities products throughout the bank (cash, options, precious metals, energy and derivatives).

Regulatory changes in the past 10 years have been extensive touching all parts of the Global Banking and Markets technology stacks. Global FX and Commodities systems now provide Trade and Transaction lifecycle data to Regulators globally including CFTC, ESMA (EMIR, MIFID), HKMA, MAR, ASIC.

As part of GFX IT Regulatory Reporting Pod we aim to ensure that our systems and data are compliant with the letter and the spirit of all Regulations that our business is governed by.

The GFX Regulatory Pod is a global team and we are part of a team of Agile Development pod in Krakow to work on new and existing GFX Regulatory requirements.

Purpose of the role:

To build technical solution as per the regulatory/business requirements and target operating model/gap analysis statements in the existing/new system stacks; so as to remediate any data gaps or processes which is required to meet our stringent Regulatory deliverables

To help grow the team and mentor junior team members of the GFX Reg team in Krakow.

Your responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will join the GFX IT team as a Senior Java Engineer focusing on the complex and varied book of work associated to our Regulatory workstreams. On joining the team, the successful candidate will be expected to quickly gain a solid understanding of the existing processes, system flows and components currently in live use: displaying sufficient interpersonal and relationship building skills to liaise directly with regulatory change/operations and other front office Business stakeholders and SMEs to develop technical and functional specifications; working with the project manager to help build technical solution where required

  • The role will require the individual to evaluate current processes, to understand incoming requirements and identify technological improvements which will allow HSBC to remain compliant with the latest regulations. There will be elements of business analysis, technical design, coding, and implementation ownership of technical solutions as well as non-tech continuous process improvements

  • The role may also require mentoring junior members of the GFX IT Reg team, helping to grow the team knowledge and skills matrix

  • The jobholder is responsible for recommending and implementing solutions that fall within policy and regulation

  • HSBC internal control standards are to be maintained. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy

Our requirements

  • Solid knowledge and experience with Java 8+

  • Experience with XML, REST and messaging technologies Experience in relational database like PostgresSQL, Oracle and Sybase, etc.

  • Ability to help team members with technical solutions

  • Understanding of DevOps practices and experience of working in an agile team

  • Familiar with TDD, continuous integration, jUnit, continuous deployment and testing

  • Ideally the candidate will have experience of working within an Investment Banking environment. Understanding of the FX Regulations and FX business including fundamentals of pricing & risk for any/all of cash, options, derivatives is an advantage

  • Experience of typical workflows from pre-trade to settlement to reporting; especially in eTrading stacks (trade lifecycle management and Front to Back trade processing) is an advantage

  • Sound analytical skills and a positive, proactive approach to work.

  • Ideal candidate will be a reliable, self-starting, problem solver

  • English at least B2 level


  • Experience on XLST and external API design is an advantage

  • Knowledge of grafana and Prometheus is an advantage
