About the project
HSBC Markets and Securities Services (MSS) is an emerging markets-led and financing-focused business that provides tailored financial solutions to major government, corporate and institutional clients worldwide. The role is within MSS IT – a department of HSBC Technology Services (HTS) - providing IT application development and support services to Business and IT teams within HSBC MSS.
In particular, The HTS MSS IT Tools, Metrics & Controls Team (MSS IT TMC) falls under the MSS IT Service Management and Infrastructure Delivery function, providing 24*5 development, enhancement and support for a number of Tools and integrations used across the MSS IT organisation.
We currently invite IT developer professionals with great potential and a strong passion to follow a career in the technology industry of HSBC Markets and Securities Services.
Your responsibilities
Work as a member of the Tools team within the MSS IT TMC organisation. In this capacity, interface with support and development teams across all asset classes, engaged in a hybrid role with primarily development and engineering responsibilities along with the need to support our systems and customers.
Work on development, scripting and configuration to enhance, improve and add to the TMC tooling suite. Such tools include bespoke applications and integrations; Service Now Integrations; ITRS Geneos (and other monitoring tools); Jira+Confluence and industry CI/CD tools. The in-house code is in a combination of C# (.Net); Python; Java; Perl; Unix Shell script; Powershell; and Oracle PL/SQL.
Contribute to the execution of tactical and strategic projects that deliver change in the MSS IT TMC tooling suite and/or its parent MSS IT Service Management organisation.
Able to work dependably and efficiently under pressure and the ability to balance support (business as usual) activity against the needs of development and project work.
Independently strive for continuous improvement in the supported services and technology as well as self-development.
Our requirements
We prefer a diverse IT background with proven development experience (in study and/or previous roles) and an active interest in technology and programming.
Primary Technical skills:
Proven experience in programming one or (preferably) more of the following technologies: .Net (C# or otherwise) / C++ / Java (or another in the Java ecosystem) / Python.
Prior experience with 1 or more industry standard RDBMS (Oracle / PostgreSQL / Sybase / MS SQL Server) in a study or work context.
Exposure to O/S and/or application services scripting in any of Unix/Linux shell; Powershell; Javascript; Perl; Python; other.
Additional / Secondary / Desirable Technical skills:
A good understanding of *Nix and/or Windows operating systems (preferably both).
An understanding of data markup and transport languages and protocols (XML; JSON; REST; etc).
Experience and/or understanding of regular expressions.
Knowledge and experience in Web Services and API development
An understanding of IT Security and Application Development best practice.
Exposure to IT Development and collaboration tools (Git/Bitbucket; Jira; Confluence; etc).
Exposure or experience with any of the industry cloud frameworks (GCP; AWS; Azure).
A willingness to work in different technology stacks with the ability to switch between them when required.
Good communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in verbal, listening and written English is crucial.
Enthusiastic willingness to rapidly and independently learn and develop technical and soft skills as needs require.
The ability to organise your time and your tasks in the face of competing priorities.
A willingness to provide occasional weekend support or cover as needs require.
