As a part of implementing an appropriate risk based approach towards financial crime risk assessment, the Group has implemented a number of different models across the customer journey, from on-boarding to exit.

    Global Analytics Centres (GAC) provides support to various HSBC business groups and functions. Members of the GAC are involved in data analysis, model and strategy development and implementation, reporting and data management. These analyses form the information basis for strategic planning by the senior management for businesses and enables effective decision making to satisfy business needs and requirements along with addressing unforeseen challenges.

    This role within the Risk Modelling job family supports various analytical projects for the FC Global Risk Models (FC GRM) function. FC GRM team is involved in developing strategic plans for Financial Crime Risk measurement and management by pursuing an increased focus on advanced modelling techniques to improve customer profiling and to identify trends and patterns indicative of Financial Crime Risk as well as providing best-in-class Analytics solutions to the Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance functions across lines of businesses and geographies within the organization. The team caters to both strategy and operations aspect of managing Financial Crime Risk through a combination of the following activities:

    • Enable The Bank to consistently assess inherent Financial Crime Risk of countries, banking products and customers, by providing sound and transparent quantitative methodologies in support of the Bank’s Financial Crime Risk Management Models.
    • Ensure due observance of HSBC Internal Control Standards and Global Risk & Compliance, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal / external auditors and external regulators.
    • Develop and oversee of the risk and control framework around FC Risk model development, ensuring that appropriate data, statistical techniques, scientific standards and business processes are in place.
    • Promote of a culture of data driven decision making, aligning short term decisions and investments with longer term vision and innovative objectives.

    Key Accountabilities:

    Participate in projects leading to solutions through involvement in any of the following activities:

    • Development of predictive models, leveraging supervised/unsupervised Machine Learning.
    • Operational deployment of predictive & explanatory statistical models.
    • Model validation, model diagnostics and business impact assessments.
    • Development and maintenance of data-driven solutions and systems.
    • Quantitative support of stakeholders across global jurisdictions and Lines of Business.
    • Ad-hoc data analysis, segmentation, clustering and visualization.
    • Time series analysis and outlier detection techniques.
    • Model and project documentation.
    • Data implementation checks and Quality Assurance.

    Requirements:

    • Postgraduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics or relevant quantitative discipline.
    • 1-3 years of post-qualification experience in a data-driven discipline is desirable.
    • Good understanding of Statistics, Machine learning is highly desirable.
    • Good coding skills in two of the following: R, Matlab, Python, Spark, SQL, Hive, SAS, VBA.
    • Familiarity with the Hadoop stack is a plus.
    • Familiarity with relational database technologies and concepts is desirable.
    • Should be adept in using MS Office with good MS Excel Skills.
    • Familiarity of Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crime Compliance framework is a plus but not required.
    • Must be fluent in English
