About the project

Compliance IT brings together all areas of financial crime risk management at HSBC and is dedicated to implementing the most effective global standards to combat financial crime.

In 2018, HSBC IT started an ambitious programme to migrate applications onto Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

This included an exciting programme that will improve HSBC’s financial crime risk management by moving away from a traditional rule-based approach, to using machine learning and advanced analytics. This will identify more financial crime, with less noise, more quickly.

This role will support the system implementation & future roadmap.

This role is for an experienced Platform Architect.

This is a hands-on role.

Your responsibilities

  • Help colleagues design solutions of the highest quality which meet functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Stay informed on the latest technologies and ensure we employ them appropriately for maximum benefit.

  • Provide technical leadership.

  • Foster a DevOps culture. Be passionate and committed to ensuring that projects are successful.

  • Ensure that products & services are supported by the right architectures, and solutions meet the business needs.

  • Ensure that product designs are cost effective and maintained through an agile development lifecycle, managing the flow of design activities on the backlog.

  • Work with Engineers to ensure operational issues (e.g. performance, operator intervention, alerting) are resolved.

  • Convert requirements into actionable product & service requirements, that feed solution development & influence service direction.

  • Ensure solutions are aligned with the platform architecture/roadmap, group standards/policies and the overall enterprise architecture.

  • Promote inner sourcing to improve re-use and improve the development efficiency.

Our requirements

  • Design, build, test, automate, monitor and support modern digital service platforms in production environments.

  • Strong working knowledge of Cloud (GCP preferred, or AWS/Azure).

  • Experience using industry standard DevOps CI/CD frameworks (Jenkins/Github/Nexus/ArgoCD etc).

  • Experience using automation tools (Terraform, Kustomize/Helm, Ansible, Python, Go).

  • Mature professional approach, clear and open communications.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability of organizational planning, resource mobilization and problem solving.

  • Ability to interact with all levels within the organization, and develop cohesive working relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work under pressure, with competing and rapidly changing priorities.

  • Ability to bring analytical rigor and structure, and effective solutions, to poorly-defined problems.

  • Aspire to provide the highest standards of delivery.

  • Make considered decisions that protect and enhance HSBC values & reputation.

  • Process definition, and continuous improvement of processes.

  • Proven production service troubleshooting skills, that span applications, systems and network within a mostly Linux environment.

  • Experience with changes to existing live systems, and risk management.

  • Exposure to, and an understanding of a broad range of technologies

  • Systems integration experience.

  • Communication with, and support of technical delivery across multiple locations and time zones.
