    Manager – Balance Sheet Reconciliation
    Location: Kraków
    Ref No: GFOC/M/BSR/12/2018
    This is a Financial Control role performing quality assurance reviews for Balance Sheet Reconciliation and Substantiation for a number of UK based entities within the HSBC Group and the incumbent will be part of independent Quality Assurance team conducting global QA reviews.
    The successful applicant will be a fully qualified accountant with significant relevant experience of Financial Control and of the relevant products and be part of the independent Quality Assurance team conducting global QA reviews.

    Role of Department/Business Area:

    1. Financial Control & Balance Sheet Quality Assurance for Global RBWM, Ring-fenced (RF)/ (NRF) Non ring-fenced UK Retail Bank and Global Banking & Markets (GBM).
    2. To strengthen the balance account reconciliation/substantiation & control environment.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Review & Governance of the RF/NFB UK Retail Bank and Global Banking & Markets Balance Sheet.
    • To ensure the completeness, accuracy and validity of regional Balance Sheet accounts in the General Ledger.
    • Ensure that internal control standards are appropriate and are maintained and documented.
    • Reporting KPIs/issues to Head of HBEU Accounting & Control/Business CFOs and Senior Finance Management.
    • Regular review and analysis of Balance Sheet Reconciliation and Substantiation including both manual and system generated feeds.
    • Responsible for preparation and submission of governance and regulatory reporting to the External Auditors.
    • Analysis and reporting of potential high risk items and supporting improvements in internal controls and strategic decision making.
    • Responsible for training and development of key stakeholders within HBEU Accounting and Finance on technical accounting standards and regulatory framework.
    • Month end review of ledger balances reconciled / substantiated highlighting any issues identified to management with effective remediation plans.
    • Preparing the balance sheet reconciliation certification for any significant issues / exceptions identified during the Independent Quality Assurance work.
    • Analysis and review of processes produced by business areas to reconcile and substantiate accounts.
    • Performing follow up reviews to ensure recommendations have been embed within the updated control environment.
    • Supporting the businesses with ad hoc tasks, financial control projects and accounting solutions.


    • Qualified ACA/ ACCA or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years PQE.
    • Must possess a relevant Finance degree.
    • Experience of IFRS.
    • Investment banking experience useful.
    • Retail banking experience useful.
    • Commercial Finance experience useful.
    • Internal/External Audit experience useful.
    • Excellent communication skills are mandatory, as are good tact and diplomacy, as the role requires constant communication with other individuals and teams with the HSBC Group.
    • Excellent time management and prioritisation of work tasks.
    • Ability to communicate with Senior Managements, Business CFOs and other key stakeholders.
    • Self-motivated enthusiastic and proven rapid learning capability.
    • Utilises own initiative to resolve issues.
    • Good management skills.
    • Must have flexible approach to work and working hours.
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages including Access, Excel (Including Macros), Visio for the production of work stream flows.
    • Ability to function well within a large and diverse team.
