About the team:

Newly established Global Chief Control Officer (CCO) Function directly supports the Group’s Chief Operating Officers (COO). The purpose of the CCO function is to enable over 80,000 colleagues within HSBC Operations, Services and Technology (HOST) to deliver a safe and secure service to all our customers, colleagues and the Bank itself. This will be achieved by:

  • Enforcing robust risk governance and ensuring all stakeholders have visibility of key risks and remediation activity.
  • Setting, communicating and monitoring risk appetite in line with business requirements.
  • Conducting high quality and efficient reviews of our control performance.
  • Facilitating controls remediation where required.
  • Raising awareness and understanding of risks, controls and risk management.
  • Continuously improving the control and monitoring of risk, including behaviors

The Global CCO Function covering the following areas:

  • Control Assurance
  • Reporting, Automation and Governance
  • Risk Culture

About the role:

The role holder will be a key team member of the GCOO Assurance function which provides independent validation of control effectiveness in HSBC.

The purpose of Manager, Controls Assurance is to support Assistant Vice President and Senior Manager in performing control assurance activities in line with HSBC Operational Risk policy and GCOO Assurance methodology across HSBC control estate but also in relation to the SWIFT Annual Certification process. This includes executing control reviews, thematic process reviews and deep dives. As such, prior experience of performing assurance activities is essential.

The purpose of this role is to deliver control assurance including mitigating operational risks through the operation of key controls. The job holder as a part of a team of control testers will report to Assistant Vice President and support three global areas (rotationally all or only some of them at the same time):

  • Operations
  • Business
  • Technology

What you will do:

  • Applying judgment in relation to the identification and publication of control assurance findings through identifying the key risks and issues
  • Timely delivering control testing in line with the quarterly and annual assurance plans
  • Supporting the completion of targeted assurance reviews covering risks and working collaboratively with other
  • Establishing effective working relationship within the Global and Regional testing teams covering multiple time-zone
  • Supporting in maintaining 'trusted advisor' relationships with internal stakeholders and partnering with 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence (LOD) including Operational Risk, ISR, Internal Audit etc. on coverage of control testing
  • Ensure compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and escalation of control issues as they arise
  • Assessing and testing effective controls that mitigate very high and high operational risks and understanding their role in risk management and internal control referred to as the ‘Three Lines of Defence’

What we expect of you:

  • Relevant experience (at least 3 years) in Control Assurance in Financial Service industry
  • Experience in assurance, audit or review in at least one from the following areas: Operations, IT and Business will be an asset
  • Knowledge in operational control assurance and risk management, internal control or internal audit
  • Process Assessment experience
  • Good project management and planning skills
  • Attention to details and critical thinking
  • Ability to read, write and speak French is desirable
