This is a great opportunity to join us as a Materials Engineer in our Engineering Centre in Gliwice.

This position is responsible for providing technical support to the DRIV™ manufacturing and engineering facilities in the area of paints, oils, and greases.  This position is to interface with Engineering, Business Units, Manufacturing and Quality. Activities will include developing, specifying and testing of paints, oils, and greases.
This role supports product launches, cost reduction programs, manufacturing operations, and engineering center through interpretation of industry and customer standards and specifications. In addition, this position will require reviewing and directing the technical activities of junior staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set-up tests and evaluations in the Materials Engineering Laboratory
  • Collect, summarize and communicate test data to business units, product engineering, process engineering, Quality and plant operations
  • Interpret coating and coating test specifications
  • Perform coating analyses
  • Work with vendors to develop hydraulic fluid formulations for use in Ride Performance applications
  • Work with vendors to develop grease formulations for use in Ride Performance applications
  • Write coating, grease and oil specifications
  • Perform oil and grease analyses
  • Assist manufacturing plants in material, production, application and equipment type concerns
  • Assist in the maintenance of Materials Engineering Laboratory’s TS16949 and ISO 14001 certification and related procedures
  • Maintain Materials Engineering Laboratory equipment and facilities
  • Support and adhere to Tenneco EH&S policies and procedures
  • Perform tasks as instructed by Materials Engineering Management
  • Other duties as assigned
What will make you successful
  • Self-directed and motivated with good written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.
  • Ability to lead and function in a dynamic team environment, while effectively communicating across various levels of the organization.
  • Basic understanding of paint and coating application systems
  • Excellent lab skills, techniques and aptitude for test equipment and measurement operations
  • Solid program/project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.
  • Excellent computer proficiency especially in Microsoft Office products including – Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel to suppliers, plants and customer locations to support development requirements (20% estimate). International travel may be required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of chemistry / chemical engineering
  • Experience in a laboratory setting is a plus
