Aptiv is seeking an Optical Design Engineer to join a dynamic team of engineers bringing new camera products from development to production. The engineer will be responsible for design, development and testing of camera systems. The successful candidate will have experience with optical system design focused on design and testing of optical components and/or systems.

Your role:

  • Develop of Next Generation Active Safety Vision Components and Products

  • Design, develop, build and test systems and products based on optics, photonics, LED and laser technologies

  • Specify and source lens, imagers, lens holders and other optical components

  • Evaluate vision system performance including  but not limited to lens stackup, lens thermal design, lens performance parameters and lens holder performance, camera signal-to-noise (S/N), fixed focus lens design, illumination optical design for collimation optics and/or LED or laser source

  • Review customer specifications and document requirements and develop component specifications based on requirements

  • Support product design reviews

  • Support hardware prototype builds

  • Support at product tests and prepare a performance report or analysis suitable for internal and customer review

  • Continuous development of professional qualifications

  • Taking care of confidential information and company’s property

  • On-time execution of assigned tasks

Your background:

  • Masters Degree in Physics or Optics

  • Lab equipment experience with power supplies, oscilloscopes function generators and multimeters

  • Design of optical components and/or systems

  • Ability to work with a global program team

  • Good verbal and written communication skills (English)

  • Minimum or 3 - 5 years’ experience, 2 year’s experience with a Master’s or Ph.D.

  • Familiarity with radiometers, imaging photometry and lens testing equipment and optical design experience with ray trace analysis software (e.g. Zemax, CodeV, LightTools, etc.) and experience transitioning designs to production is highly desired

  • Familiarity with image quality metrics including Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), glare, distortion and other camera performance measures is required

  • Willingness to travel

  • Team oriented
