Short role description

The Proposal Engineer acts as the technical and commercial focus for project estimates and competitive proposals using products and solutions as defined by customer specification and/or the business management.
The Proposal Engineer works closely with both the Project and Functional Managers and respective teams to ensure the project meets all regulatory and financial guidelines.
The Proposal Engineer will use previous reference projects as well as estimation tools to ensure estimates and solutions are accurate. He/she will also have the responsibility for taking the ideas behind new solutions and determining what the potential cost would be based on the company's manufacturing structure and cost.
Following preparation of the offer, the Proposal Engineer strongly support the sales team to develop a selling strategy, and leads the selling process along with the Sales Team.

Responsibilities

  • Analyses electrical Drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Confer with Project Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
  • Prepare forecast for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
  • Review/Establish customer specifications and prepare quotations via current available SSB quotation tools, following applicable guidelines
  • Provides competitive estimates and Proposals and owns the complete proposal process including handover to the execution interactions/correspondence with the customer in the pre-sales phase and involves internal stakeholders where applicable or necessary
  • Travel to customer sites in EMEA and internal Sales Meetings in EMEA-Region

Requirements

  • Strong business acumen
  • Knowledge of Industrial Automation, and bespoke engineered and manufactured control systems
  • Sales and Marketing experience within Europe is required
  • College degree, main focus technical discipline
  • Local language skills, plus excellent English (verbal and written), and German language skills are advantageous
