Regulatory Policy & Engagement Manager
Location: Kraków
Ref No: WMR/RPEM/11/2020

This role is a part of the Financial and Model Risk Regulatory Policy and Engagement team within Group Risk.
It has a global reach across all Risk and, to an extent, Global businesses and as such requires considerable discipline to ensure timely dissemination of information as well as the responsibility to communicate on behalf of the firm to regulators on potentially difficult issues. GRA provides the policies, processes, infrastructure and guidance required to maintain a globally consistent and conceptually sound risk rating system, IRB regime and overall capital framework across Wholesale Credit and Traded Risk.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the timely response to all regulatory deliverables, actions and communications to the PRA as they relate to Wholesale and Traded risk matters as well as regulators in HSBC’s other key jurisdictions where necessary. Examples of this may include: Traded Risk permissions / waivers / re-calibrations / extension of scope; semi-annual market as well as counterparty credit risk meetings; ad hoc requests for information
  • Cover a broad scope of risk types across Wholesale Credit, Market and Counterparty Credit risk, including governance, controls and policy
  • Strong support of all regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk
  • Maintain a positive regulatory relationship despite frequent changes in the external regulatory environment and while meeting the expectations and requirements of the internal business
  • Provide robust challenge to documentation provided by the business to ensure it meets regulatory demands and is of a robust standard
  • Manage frequent dialogue and regulatory requests on a number of different subjects
  • Working across a large number of internal stakeholders and meeting deadlines is of great importance
  • Interaction with the Prudential Regulatory Authority and other relevant international regulators and policymakers

Requirements:

  • Educated to university degree level or equivalent and it would be desirable for them to hold a relevant professional qualification
  • Experience in Wholesale banking including Commercial Banking, Global Banking & Markets or Wholesale Credit
  • Good knowledge of the regulatory landscape particularly relating to Risk governance and/or models; Previous experience in a Regulatory Capital policy function would be valued
  • Relevant working experience in a bank, rating agency, consultancy or advisory firm would be considered
  • Experience of dealing with regulators is preferable
  • Some understanding of statistics and concepts of the risk modelling process would be advantageous
  • Ability to lead, manage and successfully deliver within the agreed time scale, in liaison with all relevant stakeholders: model owners, business, finance, senior management and regulator
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Manages self to deliver own work within timelines
  • Flexibility to work with colleagues and key stakeholders in an international team
