    Runbook Manager

    The overall purpose of this role is to support the Finance Global Process Owner (GPO), providing oversight, coordinating and managing exceptions through the end-to-end impairment process.
     
    Reporting to the Finance Global Impairment Owner, this person will have to work collaboratively with process owners in Retail and Wholesale Risk. The role holder also manages key interactions with other processes such as Business Finance, Operational Accounting and Regulatory Reporting.
     

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Ensure that the IFRS 9 monthly impairment process is delivered in a timely manner across all Regions.
    • Mange the critical timeline for monthly Finance IFRS 9 activities while ensuring the appropriate governance and communication channels are achieved.
    • Ensure that IFRS 9 Impairment process provides the necessary information for downstream processes unrelated to External Disclosure of IFRS 9 Allowances.
    • Provide overall oversight and ensure optimal and effective ongoing design of the end-to-end global impairment process identifying efficiency savings post implementation.
    • As required changes are identified for the existing IFRS 9 end to end operating model, the role holder will be expected to work with the Risk GPO teams to define requirements and develop the end to end execution plan (scope, timeline, deliverables, resources etc.).
    • Act as GPO delegate and key escalation contact for GFC.
    • The role holder will also be required to support the Finance GPO with identification of process improvement / changes to the existing IFRS 9 end to end operating model. Support of the Finance Global Process Owner (GPO), providing oversight and managing exceptions through the end-to-end impairment process.
    • Report to the Finance Global Impairment Owner, this person will have to work collaboratively with process owners in Retail and Wholesale Risk.
    • Manage key interactions with other processes such as Business Finance, Operational Accounting and Regulatory Reporting.
    • Coordinate process management and key activities, including the ability to lead and direct teams both offshore and onshore.
    • Report on process and run-book status to Finance GPO in a timely manner with support of remote teams.
    • Provide overall oversight and ensure optimal and effective ongoing design of the end-to-end global impairment process identifying efficiency savings post implementation.
    • The role holder will also be required to support the Finance GPO with identification of process improvement / changes to the existing IFRS 9 end to end operating model.
    • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
    • Risk, Finance and Global Business stakeholders for all process related project deliverables within Global Finance.
    • Promote the value of challenging the status quo, seeking to improve ways of working and having a forward-thinking mind-set, in line with the Group’s Values and Strategy.
    • Report process and runbook status to Finance GPO in a timely manner with Runbook support and MI from offshore team.
    • The above includes challenging and escalating relevant MI through the second line of defence to the global business impairment committees ahead of final sign-off at the CRO/CFO level.

    Requirements:

    • University degree in finance related discipline
    • Excellent knowledge of IFRS/IAS
    • Very good understanding of IFRS 9 impairment principles and model
    • Knowledge of Banking regulations
    • Professional qualifications (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) will be an asset
    • Minimum 8 years relevant accounting and reporting experience.
    • Prior experience of a leadership role within a large and complex global process/project.
    • Banking/Insurance/Financial Services industry experience.
    • Strong analytical ability, tenacity, and sound commercial judgment.
    • Be able to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
    • Ability to provide a proactive focus on risk/issue identification and mitigation, recognising where MI should be escalated for further review.
    • Communication with senior stakeholders, e.g. lead technical discussions, prepare executive level commentary and technical papers etc.
    • Good planning and organizational skills, with ability to adapt to changing environment
