    SAS Data Analyst – Regulatory Compliance

    HSBC’s Regulatory Compliance Monitoring and Testing (RCMAT) function undertakes risk based monitoring and testing of the business’s risk and control activities. Its focus is to provide reasonable assurance that the business (including services provided to the business) is operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, HSBC Group standards and ensuring that HSBC delivers fair outcomes for our customers and does not disrupt market integrity.  


    The newly created RC Assurance Automated Testing Team supports RCMAT teams across the world to bring data into their review monitoring and testing process, either by selecting risk focused samples or analysing complete datasets so as to identify new insights of interest.  By utilising customer, transaction and product data we can the improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our monitoring and testing.


    Main Duties:

    • The role holder will be responsible for:
      • Conducting data analysis that will support RCMAT’s monitoring teams as part of the testing and review process. Data extraction, cleansing and profiling will be performed in SAS and Teradata SQL utilising data held in various Bank source systems;
      • Communicating effectively with colleagues across the Bank to gather testing and review requirements and presenting the data analysis findings back to colleagues;
      • Investigating ‘alerts’ generated within our in house monitoring tool which identifies changes in key risk indicators (KRIs). These KRIs follow the customer journey from what we sell, how we sell it, how the product performs and what the customer behaviour is post sale; and
      • Supporting the development and refinement of these KRIs to identify further out of the norm activity.

    Essential Requirements:

    • Role relevant experience (and experience) using SAS and SQL for data extraction, cleansing and analysis
    • Analytics experience in a complex organisation (e.g. banking, large financial services institution,)
    • Lateral, creative thinker with strong investigative and analysis skills;
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to deal with senior stakeholders
    • Varied business and regulatory experience (e.g. via a Compliance role or other relevant role)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and good knowledge of the English language and grammar;
    • Delivery focused; demonstrating an ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
    • Enthusiastic, pro-active, self-starter with a drive to deliver high quality monitoring standards;
    • High level of professional and personal integrity.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Role relevant experience (and qualifications) using MS Excel, VBA, Tableau, QlikView;
    • Good working knowledge of risk-based monitoring techniques.
    • Understanding of Regulatory Compliance requirements
