Your responsibilities

  • Identifying, interpreting and analyzing data from a wide range of sources to generate market-leading insights on coal prices, trade flows, production and consumption

  • Formulating and communicating insights into coal markets (both thermal and metallurgical) over short-, medium- and long-term horizons to a range of different audiences in a clear and concise manner

  • Continuously improving the delivery of data and insight into clients’ workflows by identifying and delivering enhancements on new and impactful ways to present our data and analysis to clients

  • Providing regional flow analysis and reporting of dynamic changes across markets

  • Performing statistical analysis on time-series data

  • Identifying, supporting and implementing opportunities for the development of supply-demand modelling of new markets and sectors

Our requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in commodity markets, preferably in research, analysis, policy or trading roles, we would also be happy to consider recent graduates with a suitable degree (numerical/statistics or energy related)

  • A good understanding of coal demand drivers, with ability to leverage your knowledge of key end user industries including power generation and steel

  • Demonstrable technical skills, such as Excel, Python/Matlab/R, SQL

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), with ability to convey complicated and nuanced subject matter clearly and concisely

  • To engage constructively and collaboratively with colleagues within the business to share knowledge, insights and best practice methods

Optional

  • Strong understanding of the factors that affect coal supply, including coal mining and the supply chains involved in the delivery of coal to market

  • Interest in the policy, economic and geopolitical factors that impact coal and the wider energy market, including those shaping the transition to a lower carbon economy

  • Enthusiasm to network effectively with a wide range of clients and industry contacts to help maintain a strong level of market intelligence, and ensure we not only meet but anticipate our customers’ needs
