A Day in the Life
 
In this role your main responsibility will be to lead the Communications function and programs for Medtronic’s operations in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
Functionally reporting to the Vice-President PR & Communications, EMEA, and operationally reporting to the Vice-President of CEE, the jobholder will design and execute an integrated communications strategy for Medtronic in CEE region, incorporating best practices in media and public relations, employee communications, digital and social media and marketing communications. The leader will build and execute plans in conjunction with their team and key internal and external stakeholders, including Medtronic business units, functions and regional colleagues.


Key responsibilities of the role:

Functional Management:

  • Leads communications for Medtronic in CEE, providing strategic counsel, functional management and campaign delivery that engages and builds advocacy with relevant stakeholders across communications channels: internal and external, traditional and social.
  • Leads a team of two direct reports, including a Principal Comms Generalist for Poland/Baltics/Belarus/Ukraine and a Comms Generalist for Czech Republic/Slovakia.
  • Together with reports, the individual will partner with the business to build and execute a communications plan that prioritizes communications efforts and activities against the business’ and region’s top priorities.
  • Ensures that all compliance and ethical standards are fulfilled by the Communications function. Proactively engages with aligned functions to ensure an integrated approach to representing the Medtronic brand across relevant channels. Integrates plans and activity with government affairs, human resources, finance, legal and regulatory affairs as appropriate.

Public / Media Relations:

  • Identifies and engages with external key opinion leaders to become advocates for Medtronic’s Mission, therapies and business strategy. 
  • Where appropriate and in conjunction with EMEA leadership and agency partners, acts as a company spokesperson to the region’s news media.
  • Monitors key influencers and stakeholders in the public domain and works with business units and regional leadership to support and/or lead stakeholder engagement efforts.

Internal Communications:

  • Plans and executes a proactive employee engagement and communications strategy focus on aligning and educating employees about the region and business strategic priorities and programs.
  • Partners with Human Resources, leadership and other functions to ensure regional employees are informed and aware of key Medtronic initiatives and requirements.
  • Operates the internal communications strategy utilizing company approved platforms, tools, channels and approaches as defined by the GC&CM function globally.

Digital and Social Media:

  • Works in partnership with the EMEA and language-focused digital teams to drive campaigns across digital and social media channels. 
  • Defines a social media approach for CEE that is aligned with EMEA social media strategy and company policies. 
  • Drives advocacy by actively engaging in social influencer identification, managing local editorial calendar and engagement plan.
Must haves and Nice to Haves:
  • Academic degree in Journalism, Marketing or Communications.
  • Fluent English. 
  • 7+ years in the PR/Communications profession, in large global corporate environment and/or public relations agency.
  • Experienced across communications disciplines - both traditional and social platforms. 
  • Proven external communications and issues management experience. 
  • Technical aptitude for web-based solutions, social media and emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully supporting transformation and change efforts that involve diverse sets of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of both traditional and emerging communications channels, including social media and digital platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and to execute and coordinate projects efficiently and effectively; adjust to shifting priorities; ability to negotiate priorities with key business leaders.
  • Ability to deliver campaigns that are integrated across internal/external/digital/social.
  • Outstanding writer and presenter.
  • Successful both as a team player and as an individual.
  • Operationally versatile – comfortable with providing advice to business leaders and day-to-day campaign execution and delivery. 
  • Medical industry knowledge preferred, but not essential.
