Your responsibilities

  • Act as trusted advisor and escalation point for the senior management of the supported remit area on how to properly manage their operational risk and all items related (Risk assessments, Control environment, issues management, etc)
  • Manage the promotion of accountable risk and control decision-making based on quality data and commercial analysis
  • Manage the provision of specialist risk and control knowledge and insights
  • Support efforts to continuously improve the control environment, monitoring of risk, including behaviours
  • Support efforts to evolve the controls architecture to reflect technology agendas
  • Identify themes to anticipate future developments in the risk and control environment
  • Actively challenge poor, inefficient or excessive controls, related tasks and behaviours
  • Support the development and implementation of future-fit risk management frameworks
  • Drive and shape the development of regulatory frameworks in collaboration with internal parties
  • Provide senior management with updates on any relevant changes to policy or projects related to operational risk that have an impact on your profile (their area of responsibility)
  • Promote desired behaviours and a positive risk culture across the remit area
  • Support IT stakeholders in ongoing Audits and issue/action closure
  • Attending and driving risk and control agenda in MIR (Major Incident Review) and PIR (Post Incident Review) meetings
  • Partner with Operational Risk, Risk Stewards, and Internal / External Audit to ensure a holistic and accurate view of risk profile
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, sharing risk knowledge and best practices
  • Hold IT Risk and Control owners accountable for understanding risk and control profile, providing them with ongoing coaching, training, and support
  • Cultivate a positive controls culture across IT
  • Influence and collaborate with Global IT CCO counterparts
  • Assess and build the right capabilities needed to meet the enhanced risk profile of the organisation
  • Make considered decisions that protect and enhance HSBC values, reputation and business

  • Communication - Ability to present complex issues confidently and concisely to Technology and DBS Senior Executives and other key stakeholders using non-technical easily understood language

About the role

The Chief Control Office (CCO) plays an important role in enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite, by ensuring efficient and effective risk and control management. CCO achieves this by providing operational risk and control expertise, providing high quality reviews of the bank's control environment, conducting end to end reviews on key controls, maintaining robust risk governance focused on material risk and issues, and evolving a culture of continuous and consistent risk management.

The Senior Control Manager- Wealth & Personal Banking (WPB) CCO is part of the CCO Technology, WPB within the DBS (Digital Business Service) CCO Technology Office and will report into the Senior Manager WPB, CCO Technology. This role is responsible for embedding the Non-Financial Risk Framework and management of IT Risks and Controls.

As part of a global team, the Senior Controls Manager will be expected to support and collaborate with other team members across multiple regions. As well as manage their portfolio maintaining an acceptable risk profile.

This job is part of the First Line of defence and ensures the bank operates within its risk appetite by providing specialist risk and control knowledge and insights, promoting risk and control monitoring and decision-making.

Role responsibilities are to support the Global Head of Technology Controls, WPB, across all aspects of the CCO WPB team.
