Your responsibilities
Drives proactively with functional areas to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting is accomplished within prescribed deadlines and in accordance with IFRS / Alcon Manual of Accounting (AMA) and local legal requirements
Prepare accurate and robust monthly balance sheet account analyses and reconciliations, including analyses for balance sheet reviews
Prepare accurate journal entries in a timely manner
Ensure adequate booking of the payroll and participate to discussion with HR officers to appropriately record FTE related provisions.
Ensure the revenue recognition is in accordance with the IFRS / AMA requirments
Collaborate proactively with key stakeholders, including Finance colleagues and Regional Financial Reporting and Accounting. Communication with these stakeholders is appropriate and timely when questions regarding accounting/reporting matters arise.
Ensure all processes comply with Alcon standards and policies (i.e. global processes, Alcon Accounting Manual, Alcon Financial Controls Manual, Management Authorization Levels, etc.).
Understand impacts to the general ledger for assigned areas due to other intra- and inter-departmental transactions and activity from other functional departments
Assist with specific tax, compliance and audit reporting processes and for the entity, providing necessary data to internal and external authorities. Acts as a SPOC on specific external audit areas and refers back to the GL manager when needed.
Regular run of product costing for multiple EMEA markets
Understand the product cost master data setup including all the attributes (Transfer price TP, price condition, purchase info records, 3rd pty freight, customs, other fees etc.)
Capture errors and mistakes in the TP or other cost elements and address them with the relevant countries’ Local Data Steward (LDS) to be corrected in timely manner adhering to deadlines
Ensure best practices are established across the markets and efficiencies gained
Ensure all activities are performed in a compliant way that supports RCM controls
Provides detailed description for unique accounting treatments that occurs that need to be documented in an Accounting Positioning Paper
Regularly follows up and discusses the changes in the AMA and the international accounting standards with the GL Manager or the Technical accounting team
Perform compliance controls in relation to the Financial accounting including documentation of approvals, sample checks
Provide analysis and comments on variances for month-end financial reports
Understand impacts to the general ledger for assigned areas due to other intra- and inter-departmental transactions and activity from other functional departments. Provide audit support through data/documentation gathering
Our requirements
Undergraduate degree in Accounting and/or Finance required. CPA/Chartered Accountant preferred.
Masters or Advanced degree in Accounting and/or Finance preferred.
Minimum: 5-7 years of relevant experience preferably with Pharmaceutical or Medical device company.
Ability to apply accounting practices
Experience working with shared services preferred
Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office package.
Fluent English and French – must have

The role of the Senior GL accountant reports to the GL Manager in the AGS Warsaw center.
His/her primary responsibility is to apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Responsible for accounting requirements for assigned areas to be completed timely and accurately. Perform the respective analysis and follow up with the countries on issues, items to be resolved in relation with the General Ledger accounting. The Senior GL accountant regularly follows up and discusses the changes in the Accounting Manual of Alcon (AMA) and the international accounting standards with the GL Manager or the Technical accounting team.
The ideal candidate will have ability to apply accounting practices, good analytical and communication skills, keep attention to detail, very good understanding of the system and processes and sense of urgency with strong desire to learn. Experience working with SAP will be an asset.
