Your responsibilities
Undertake various quantitative and non-quantitative work within GVG, such as running analysis, testing tools and interacting with external teams to assist with specific projects
Will support Product Control in the running and implementation of Fair Value Adjustments and supporting users of Pegasus, an internal system
Required to work closely with colleagues in the GVG function, onshore GVG teams and stakeholders
Required to communicate effectively with people at various levels of seniority and different backgrounds in a challenging but collegiate environment
Actively engage with other team members for projects and contribute to team discussions on valuation issues
Ensure that there is full compliance with the Global Markets FIM
Integrity, conduct and performance against ethical standards
Documented knowledge of the role
Identify the knowledge required for new projects
Prompt resolution of problem issues and management queries related to the relevant product lines
The job holder will need to be analytical and be able to investigate and follow through on issues as they arise
Problem solving - investigation of queries and issues as well as longer term strategic objectives

Managing relationships with multiple senior stakeholders
The jobholder will have regular contact with project stakeholders
The jobholder will have involvement in multiple projects across different locations globally, often simultaneously.
The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology
Management of operational risk for the GVG team is an integral part of the role profile by maintaining good discipline in coding and team working practice
Understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which one is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy
The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators
The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply
This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators
Our requirements
University graduate from a reputed institution
Masters degree in a numerical subject (Maths, Physics, Engineering or similar) or a Business Degree
Excellent written English and oral communication skills. The job holder will have daily contact with the Front Office and Product Control Senior Management and therefore require excellent communication skills in addition with outstanding technical ones
Stong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem solving
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ambitious, driven and enthusiastic
Strong derivatives knowledge is essential
Familiarity with programming skills such as VBA, C++ and understand basic programming, database and logical relationships
Experience of working in a quantitative team or in a relevant highly technical role or a valuations/risk role is a positive

The Global Valuation Group (GVG) is a global group within Global Markets infrastructure with representation in London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong and Krakow. GVG is a centralised specialist quantitative group dedicated to, 1. Independent review of Front Office and Risk (Value-at-Risk and Counterparty Risk) models. 2. Support of Product Control in the proposition, refinement and implementation of fair value adjustment methodologies. 3. Development and support of quantitative tools and resources to enhance the control framework. 4. Quantitative support, where required, to Product Control and Market Risk Management.
The position will have the primary responsibility to manage the GVG Analytics team (around 10 people) in Krakow and to ensure that GVG provides assistance to our key stakeholders in understanding, (a) Model Limitations, (b) Off-System Valuations and Computing Tools and (c) Valuation Consultancy.
Members of this team work closely with a number of Product Control teams, Front Office quantitative groups, system developers, Market Risk Management and Markets IMR.

HSBC trades the full scope of global markets products including but not limited to spot and forward foreign currency sales and purchases, money market placements and deposits, investment and trading securities, as well as derivatives including interest rate swaps and options, currency options, currency swaps, structured credit products, credit default swaps, local currency derivatives and equity derivatives. There is considerable accounting, analytical, and market specific complexity in order to appropriately value financial market products.
The roles are based in the Krakow Global Finance Centre (GFC) and are part of Global Banking and Market Valuation Control. The GFC currently has approximately 250 members, 50 of which are in Valuation Control.
The job holder will be part of an immediate GVG team in Krakow of approximately eight people and circa 130 globally.
Members of the Group work closely with a number of Product Control teams, Front Office, Market Risk Management, Asset Management and the Regulatory Risk Analytics team.
