About the project

Department Overview

Bain's Next-Generation Software Solutions (NGSS) team has been set up to help Industry and Capability Practices digitize their Intellectual Property through a diversified set of technology, services, and support.

The team supports practices, case teams, and clients through various product delivery models including best-in-class partnerships with leading SaaS vendors, product development using industry-leading low code and business engineering platforms, and developing highly complex custom software solutions and products.

In addition to core product development, the team fills critical gaps through a growing technical services catalogue including technical architecture and code assessments, expert architecture consulting, business automation and integration, product visualization services, and infrastructure hosting and support.

Underlying these products and services is Next Gen’s Customer Success Program, ensuring the tools are setup and configured according to the case team and client’s needs, end-users are on-boarded and trained properly, and a global support structure is in-place to quickly answer any questions or address issues.

The results of these efforts are a greater ability to sell cases effectively, serve clients efficiently, and drive capability transfer. In short, it is about better results that enhance our clients' and our own competitiveness.

Position Summary

Next Gen is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to lead the Warsaw-based Product Visualization Engineering (PVE) team. The PVE team is a team of highly skilled engineers focused on building highly impactful and intuitive dashboards that bring the underlying software product’s data to life through insights.

Responsibilities will include general team leadership and management, ensure teams and resources are well supported, work to remove blockers and resolve any challenges, projects are properly staffed, managing capacity and resource planning for upcoming work, identifying risks, mitigation planning, providing mentoring, professional development planning for team members, writing mid-year and annual reviews, and ensuring strong team cohesion and culture.

This position will take a leading role in scaling the local Next Gen Warsaw visualization engineering team, working to create job descriptions, scan CVs, interview candidates, collaborate with the team on hiring decisions, and ensure new joiners are successfully on-boarded and welcomed.

Additional responsibilities include working with Next Gen senior leadership on strategic priorities related to data visualization including technology scans, POCs of enterprise platforms, creating standards and frameworks for consistency, creation of technical user guides and best practices materials, creation of new service-level SKUs to meeting business and software product needs, and ensuring products are using the best visualization technology options.

Candidates with previous management consulting experience are highly desirable.

Your responsibilities

Team Management and Leadership

• Provide daily management and directions to team members

• Cultivate strong collaboration and teamwork across the group

• Manage the team’s professional development through coaching and performance feedback

• Define career progression and professional development paths

• Lead weekly all-hands calls and conduct bi-weekly one-to-one calls

• Ensure appropriate staffing levels across product portfolio

• Work to remove any challenges and blockers impeding the team’s work

• Coordinate with Next Gen’s product management and operations teams on staffing

• Work to create internal playbooks and external-facing IP for data visualization best practices

• Continually lead, motivate, and develop team members to ensure high quality results and processes

• Serve as the primary contact to the Bain Capability Network (BCN) to ensure team alignment, clarify roles and responsibilities on Next Gen product deployments, support team cohesion, and ensure any issues or challenges are quickly addressed

Technical Leadership

• Guide the team in overcoming any technical challenges encountered, weigh pros/cons of various options, and advise the business

• Ensure team output is of the highest quality in terms of visual design, security, performance, scalability, adherence to best practices, and quality assurance processes are followed before delivery

• Keep up to date on various technologies related to data visualization

• Participate on technical discovery, POCs, and innovation work streams to validate new tools, technologies, and designs


• Collaborate with Next Gen and Bain senior leadership in determining the engineering team’s long-term global growth strategy

• Training, professional development, internal meetings, team building events/outings, etc.

Our requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in technology or business/management field

  • Master’s degree/MBA, relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PgMP) - preferred

  • Total of 10+ years professional experience, including 5+ years managing teams in a fast-paced, complex business setting

  • Previous experience working in the consulting industry or an early stage start-up environment - preferred

  • Strong management and team leadership skills with track record of success

  • Experience in defining development and career path for team or department

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving

  • Experience scaling teams including creating job descriptions, recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding

  • Strong understanding of data, analytics, and one or more common enterprise BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

  • Basic understanding of Agile software development process and frameworks

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Must be result-driven, a creative thinker, be self-motivated and proactive, be highly organised and demonstrated ability to stay calm and composed in a fast-moving environment

  • Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts - preferred
