Responsibilities

We are looking for a well organized individual to develop trusted partnerships with Operations Managers responsible for General Ledger Account Ownership (GLAO) functions and managing related process controls (SOX), collaborate effectively with multiple Stakeholders across international offices and within other CS Departments such as Financial Accounting, Product Control and Risk Management, with activities aligned to the two bank-wide frameworks as described below:

 

Control Oversight (SOX)

  • Ensuring timely facilitation of month-end and year-end completeness of Group Operations compliance to section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX); Lead EMEA Group Operations SOX Beginning Of Year and End Of Year processes.
  • Managing work with OC&R globally to ensure completeness & consistency of key controls, identify weaknesses in controls and validate that controls mitigate risk.
  • Managing and reviewing control issues/breakdowns/Quality Assurance Reviews and meaningful the owners of issues impacting the SOX process and testing to settle if further actions are required.
  • Reviewing and reporting global SOX Control Improvement Plans for senior management oversight, raising action deadlines to ensure timely closure.
  • Providing mentorship to EMEA SOX Control owners on SOX policy.
  • Extending the SOX standards to Group Operation’s wider Control Activities Framework as required.

General Ledger Account Ownership (GLAO)

  • Ensuring adequate coverage and timely reporting of issues arising from the General Ledger Account Ownership (GLAO) control framework.
  • Working with OC&R globally to perform look-across of the control framework, driving the openness and consistency of reporting requirements.
  • Providing appropriate review and challenge of material Balance Sheet reconciliation breaks.
  • Understanding and challenging the monthly GLAO sign-off process.
  • Providing mentorship to EMEA GLAO account owners on GLAO policy and reconciliation standards.
  • Participating in EMEA Steering Committee Meetings ensuring that Group Operations GLAO commentary is appropriate and properly addresses Balance Sheet risks and that mitigating actions are realistic and achievable.

Operations Control and Risk (OC&R) advises, supports and challenges Operations management who are responsible for the financial, reputational and regulatory risks of Operations. Our people provide risk and control expertise by working closely with Operations Line areas. We also collaborate with Regulators, Auditors and with other CS groups such as Compliance, Financial Accounting, Product Control, Internal Audit and Risk Management. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone with experience in either Group Operations or Group Finance, who would like to move into Risk Management. A successful candidate will see a broad range of different operational processes / areas and will build his or her understanding of Operations, the underlying controls and the balance sheet impact by working closely with Group Finance. We are looking for:

  • University degree or post-graduate studies or equivalent in banking economics/accounting or science.
  • Minimum 3 years' of proven experience of working in audit, financial/banking industry or professional services firm with strong and proven background in Operational Risk/Compliance/Finance/Product Control/Internal Audit. 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles (double entry, assets & liabilities, balance sheet vs P&L) and proven experience in controlling balance sheet accounts; accounting qualification preferred.
  • Understanding of investment banking/financial products.
  • Proven analytical skills: the ability to understand, analyse and seek complex issues and propose appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluent English language skills to support frequent interaction with senior managers internationally.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office, Excel and Power Point; VBA knowledge would be a big advantage.
  • Creative and inquisitive mind-set
  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to understand issues or problems at a high level and then deep-dive into specific aspects. Questioning the status quo and identifying issues and improvements with a desire to establish and grow professional relationships at all levels within the firm.
