About the project

Streaming live events brings unique challenges, as millions of fans join our broadcasts in a short space of time.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer who is passionate about building a modern, scalable and resilient platform and pushes the boundaries on playback excellence. We give you the autonomy over the software you build and freedom to choose the right tool for the job. In return, we expect you to take ownership of the system, and that means:

- You’re responsible for the operational health of your services

- You’re empowered and encouraged to fix operational issues as part of sprint capacity

Your team

We are scaling the teams responsible for the backend services that power DAZN playback. The new team will be responsible for transforming the use of data to provide real-time decision-making, real-time trending of potential issues with regional and device-specific granularity, and powerful debugging tools enabling the Engineering and Operations teams to identify the root cause of issues faster and more easily.

Tech stack: Node.js, Typescript, AWS (Fargate, Lambda, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, CloudWatch, S3), Terraform, Vault, DRM, New Relic, Docker, Github, Jira.

About the Playback Experience domain

Watching sport is why our fans come to DAZN, and the Playback Experience domain focuses on all aspects of video playback, from the way we encode and package source video content, the network that pushes the content around the world, the player on our fans’ devices, monitoring of the fans’ viewing experience, and protection of our video content.

This role can be based in Katowice or you can work remotely from anywhere in Poland.

Your responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scalable microservices

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, and other Software Engineers to deliver a compelling user experience

  • Deliver maintainable, robust and testable code

  • Share knowledge and collaborate with other developers across the business

  • Evolve and design the services that power and monitor our video streaming

  • Partner with the other Software Engineering teams to create end to end solutions

Our requirements

  • Development Experience: Backend (preferred JS, TS, Golang) or Frontend with a desire to move to backend

  • Experience with cloud and/or microservices (preferred AWS)

  • Production development experience: unit tests, integration tests, monitoring

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with people at all seniority levels (English required)

Optional

  • Experience of data processing platforms like Hadoop and Apache Spark

  • Knowledge of data visualization software like Tableau

  • Experience of Event streaming platforms like Kafka,

  • Technical understanding of video encoding, DRM, Video Playback

  • Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery experience

  • Worked in a “Build it, own it” model

  • Infrastructure as code
