Position in MDx Department:

MDx Software Development department in Wroclaw is key R&D center in QIAGEN. All together we are almost 800 specialists working in Wroclaw office. In 2020 we became Software Technology Center responsible for global projects, software technology, DevOps and agile practices. We value innovation, agility, entrepreneurship in pragmatic way to get things done.

Project Description:

The project uses digital PCR technology in order to examine DNA samples. The solution is aimed for laboratories and hospitals. Platform consists of an analytical instrument and a dedicated web application which lets user configure experiments and analyze results. The user is able to visualize the experiment template as well as the results.

We are looking for motivated and experienced Software Architect (Java) to support development activities in one of our key projects.

You will have great opportunity to have direct impact on one of most revolutionary and fastest growing industries in the world. You will collaborate with development teams located in Poland, Germany, Spain and in the UK. You will work on one of QIAGEN’s most innovative diagnostic products (dPCR, Syndromic Testing or other). You will be responsible for:

• defining software architecture,

• leading an improvement regarding the reduction of technical debt between components

• Leading the shape of a backwards compatible interface to the instrument and develop a strategy for its development according to the current roadmap.

• Supporting the building of an automatic deploy system and ensuring regression of the whole system, in particular taking into account the needs of MDx

• Preparation of a plan to change the architecture and its evolution due to the advent of MDx

• Defining standards and good practices

• Co-leading Software Architecture Community

• Continuously improving technology stack in projects portfolio

• Organizing tech-talks for technical staff

Our requirements

  • Application architect/Software architect – min. 2 years of experience

  • Programming skills: the architect must be well versed in the design and development of IT solutions

  • Strong communication skills - towards technical teams, sponsors, stakeholders and communities

  • Knowledge how to divide large computer systems into partition to allow for easy management by individual engineers

  • Ability to conduct research to determine the effectiveness of finished products or to build new ones that will be developed in the construction of the entire system

  • Ability to maintain architectural products and systems to ensure they remain efficient.

  • Practical knowledge of CI and CD pipelines

  • Problem-solving skills: as an architect you need to be proficient in developing architectural systems that meet the needs/requirements of the organization or client

  • Planning skills: as an architect you will have to organize and plan the work for your team of architects in a way that makes the most of their abilities.

  • Critical and creative thinking

  • Team player with willingness to work in an international environment,

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills,

  • Not scared of working with documentation,

  • Eager to share knowledge, open-minded person,

  • An active participant in discussions,

  • Self-organized.

Optional

  • practical experience in agile software development is a plus,

  • proven track record and evidence of the ability to translate knowledge into practical achievements,

  • research and development experience in diagnostic within industry or academia, PhD in Biotechnology is a great advantage.
