    Financial Control Specialist

    Purpose & Accountabilities
    The Financial Control (FC) Specialist will play a key role supporting one or more Downstream EU Countries/Clusters in driving the efficiency and effectiveness of its/their financial control. The candidate will play a key role in nurturing DS financial controls within Finance Operations (FO), the EU Country/Cluster and the relevant community within the Line of Business. The role also encompasses specific responsibility for supporting a variety of Management in Control processes; such as delivering the Risk & Control Identification annual process; maintaining an effective risk based financial control framework to ensure that risks are effectively and efficiently addressed; monitoring and reporting the effectiveness of controls; supporting migrations and retrofits to ensure these are successfully embedded in FO; supporting FC continuous ensuring application of an appropriate risk based control monitoring methodology.
    The successful candidate will develop a thorough knowledge of the EU Country/Cluster and have regular interactions with key stakeholders as required. The FC Specialist will be a key point of contact between FO, the DS FC Manager and the Business, managing day to day FC related queries.

    • Contribute to projects, initiatives and activities related to DS financial control framework improvement
    • Assist and own day to day Financial Control related questions relating to the Country/Cluster
    • Manage and deliver the annual Risk and Control Identification (RCI) process for the specific EU Country/Cluster ensuring effective communication, engagement and collaboration between relevant parties.
    • Perform testing of the design and operating effectiveness of financial controls within the Company’s business processes. Execute audit and internal controls reviews with a specific focus on risk with financial, operational and compliance impact.
    • Execute implementation, documentation and test of controls under the Company’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) corporate governance program. Support the team to propose practical and actionable recommendations to improve controls and address deficiencies.
    • Develop strong relationships with Business representatives to ensure a deep understanding of the risk environment and its mitigation and the effective operational control performance in the DS.
    • Provide professional advice and support to stakeholders (Process / Business) on governance, risk and control framework & issues. This includes supporting remediation activity, managing stakeholders across function/business.
    • Maintain oversight of all financial controls for your clusters, both operated within FO and remaining in the business.
    • Proactively identify improvement opportunities in and rationalisation opportunities of the financial control framework in the Country/Business.
    • Liaise with external and internal auditor on any FC related matter impacting Country/Business.
    • ​Act as the escalation point for any Management in Control issues in the financial controls space. Escalate business control issues via the business facing GRA organization in FO

    The successful candidate will ideally be a professionally qualified Accountant who has a range of experience in either the internal audit or risk and controls arena:

    • Passion for operational excellence and Continuous Improvement
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (English written and spoken) and ability to influence, motivate and coach multi-cultural virtual teams of varying experience and know-how
    • Knowledge of local laws re. accounting, internal controls, statutory requirements
    • Knowledge SOX requirements (Sarbanes Oxley)
    • Management of own deliverables will require the ability to prioritize and balance workloads along with strong time management skills.
    • Other personal skills - professional scepticism, lateral thinking, good analytical skills, independent, results oriented, fast paced, resourceful and proactive and ability to manage change
